How To Earn Money By File or Image Sharing?

Hello,
I haven't done this for several years but I know I tried to make money by doing this a few years back. I tried multiple file sharing sites and did all kinds of things to get downloads for those things..

What I wonder is, first of all, is this still a "hot" method to make money online? (I know from back then that tons of newbies tried this as they had seen some outstanding results by others.. That's probably why I tried it too.)

Have you ever done this?
What did you focus on, images or files?

Just like anything online, you'll need tons of traffic as you'll need people to view or download your files. How did you promote it and what kind of things did you share?

Do you think something like this would be possible today, now when we have instagram, facebook, twitter etc.?

Hi hitmeasap thanks for good question. As per as I know it is another excellent way to earn money from online just by sharing file or image. I tried few years back but in that time I have not clear idea how to earn money by file or image sharing. But I know this is superb way to earn more money from internet. You can find lot of website related with this business and they paid $1 to $10 per 1K download even more high like $30 and they also provide referral commission too. So it is very good source of income. I will try again if I get enough time in future.

Thank you for your response ajlancer. I wish you the best of luck in the future, if you find enough time to try this again. However, even though I know of different websites with different commissions and all that, and I do also know "how to" attract people, just not WHAT to share with these people. What would you share if you were about to start doing this again?

When I tried this I usually went with different background images in various resolutions and tried to share this with people in different forums.. That said, i didn't earn much at all doing this, and honestly, I do believe that I still have about $10 or $15 in earnings at depositfiles, but as I couldn't earn enough to withdraw the funds, due to their "minimum amount of funds" limit, I just got on to the next thing.

I haven't tried this way of earning money. Is this similar to adfly sites?
How much money do they offer per thousand downloads? These programs don't pay well for time invested.

I have already joined adfly but since the rate is low, we can't earn much.

Both yes and no. Adfly is a url-shortener that will pay you for each visit you get to that specific link. In that way, these two things are alike. However, you will need tons of visits to be successful and to actually earn anything at all. Meanwhile depositfiles and other similar sites will pay you for each download your uploaded files will get. and here too, just as with adfly, you'll need tons of downloads to earn money. The pay rates are different from site to site but I would say that it usually is somewhere between $5 and $30 for 1,000 downloads. You earn more from tier 1 and tier 2 countries compared to tier 3 or tier 4 and these specifics can always be found on the site. They usually pay you more for downloads from The United States, Sweden, England etc. And less for India, Bangladesh or Egypt for instance.

Is Photobucket considered a file-sharing site or is it just a depository? Anyway, what I understand with file-sharing is that you submit a file for public use so that anyone can retrieve it and get a copy without the need for permission. I guess an account in a file-sharing is still quite effective but not in the league of the social media sites. It is easier to promote in Facebook and Twitter now because of the big number of users that can read your post.
