How much would a coder potentially charge for a relatively "easy" software?

First off, let me just explain that I do understand that the title says "potentially", so I can see why someone would say "$100,000,000" or "whatever he wants to charge!" etc. So just don't reply with those things please.

I'll try to explain this a bit better for you.

I have a decent idea and I'm actually 99% positive of the fact that this could be a quite lucrative business. It opens up doors to multiple income streams sort of, although it's just one software.

However, the software or bot, might be hard to build, but the software wouldn't do something more difficult than what you could basically do using some imacros. That being said, I don't want imacros. I want a real software doing the things imacros could do and I do understand that the price for something like this would obviously depend on exactly what the bot or software does and exactly how much time a coder spends building something like this. Oh, I would also like to sell the actual software too.

The coder or a coder, would also need to update the software/bot regularly so I believe I'll need to have a webserver myself, as I would also like to sell softwares?

Anyhow, what would a decent coder charge for something like that? - I mean, $5, $500 or $5000? - What would be some sort of indicator of how much a coder would charge for it?

I would think that it is hard for a coder to give a price, they will need more details. Maybe you should create a WTB?

I know Lynne, I know. But it's hard to explain without giving out too much details. Which is why I don't really want to put up a WTB about it either. I would just like to get some sort of indicator on how much a coder would charge for something like this. The best thing would obviously be to share everything about it, but while doing so, I'd also risk the entire thing, as a coder could potentially end up doing this himself instead.. And I don't want to give anyone a business idea for free as long as I'm interested in doing this myself

I have the same problem actually. I have something I need done but I want someone trustworthy and capable before I start talking about it. I also don't want to pay much upfront and I have been thinking along the same sort of lines as you. I would love to get someone on board that I can like a commission to when sales come in. I just want someone to code a plugin in for me or a script, and then if I need some help with it in future then I will receive ongoing support, plus if I need to add anything...

Maybe talk to Abid, that is what I am going to do

It's hard to say what the price could be. I guess it depends on many things. But i recently was asked to make some software, probably similar to yours, to act like what imacros would do, but it would be .exe bot, so i said $800 because it's software which i already have developed, buyer just want his own brand on it and sale rights... Other way i would ask more then that if i can't sell it my self. So what the price would be... Hmm it's kind of negotiable, depending on how much tie would developing take, etc...

Oh, and what about updates then? - Let's say I hire you for $800 and you do everything you are supposed to do. A week or three weeks later or whatever, I need to hire you again to make some updates.. And I bet those updates wouldn't take much more than an hour or two perhaps. But it obviously depends on exactly what the updates are, but let's say 2 hours of work as an example. - What would you charge for something like that then?

Head up to CodeClerks or any other big marketplaces where you can hire a freelance coder capable of doing this, look for the most popular ones with the best reviews, contact like 10 of them on each marketplace, say hi and ask them if they are available for a project.

The once that respond means they are interested enough so take things to step two, write a detailed explanation of what you want without giving out your main idea just make sure they are capable of delivering from a technical standpoint.

Step three: Negotiate the hell of it with multiple freelancers and choose the one that reflects the best price but also the potential quality of work.
I'm pretty sure it won't cost a lot from what I understand not that much and complicated coding will be involved in your project.
Step four, once you have a working beta version, test the hell out of it, work on the bugs and you can start selling, custom website, of course, implemending modern marketing techniques.

I think no matter how simple and how small complexity. I think one should never quote too low. I have seen that people quoting 0 or 5 bucks on some software. And that has resulted in loss of the profit. I think people should consider charging some specific price for the software. And they need to make sure that their expenses and efforts spent on the software are well paid. That way one can surely understand how the future products can be priced.
